Beyond Heaven: Chicago House Party Flyers — Volume III, From 1983-1992
Beyond Heaven: Volume III is the concluding instalment of the trilogy, highlighting a later expansion of Mario “Liv It Up” Luna’s collection of Chicago house music flyers (also known as pluggers), covering the years 1983 to 1992. This volume features a range of rare and significant flyers from events at venues such as the Muzic Box, Medusa’s, Sauer’s, and the Rainbo, showcasing influential figures including Ron Hardy, Frankie Knuckles, Mr. Fingers, Marshall Jefferson, Steve “Silk” Hurley, Jesse Saunders, Lil Louis, Chip E, and various members of the WBMX Hot Mix 5. It also documents Luna’s own Southside community of Latino party crews, dance groups, and DJs. Maintaining the same format as the previous two volumes, this book offers a visual and historical record of the key people, places, and aesthetics that shaped the early years of Chicago’s house music scene.
