Neon Genesis Evangelion was one of the first anime to treat its on-screen typography as a deliberate design system. At a time when interface text in anime was typically hand-painted by subcontractors, director Hideaki Anno used desktop typesetting to exert direct control over the show's visual language.

This pocket-sized book collects over 200 of those interface screens: computer displays, warnings, diagrams, targeting systems, readouts, and technical schematics, gathered as a survey of that design language in practice. Dense grids, elongated display type, countdown timers, glowing bars, and scrolling text recur throughout, applied with enough consistency to suggest a functioning operational system rather than a set of disconnected props.

The result is a retro-futuristic military aesthetic that stays legible under its own density — exaggerated in style, but grounded in a genuinely considered typographic and layout logic.
