A collection of nude photos taken by Moana Van Ruymbeke of their partner using the Game Boy Camera. Released by Nintendo in 1998, it gave the console the ability to take 128×112 pixel dithered greyscale photographs.

This technical constraint blurs the boundary between the human body and texture, making the body appear more modest or more raw depending on the viewer’s gaze.

For Van Ruymbeke, the project was also a way to finally own the ‘game’ as an adult that their parents never allowed them to have. The process felt like reclaiming control over small childhood frustrations, including one’s relationship with one’s own body.

The book contains 86 intimate images printed to scale of the original Game Boy screen.
